About Jaalolu Limited

What's in the name?

Jaalolu pronounced “JA LO LU” is a Mandinka word meaning Musicians.

Jaalolu is the home of some of the most notable Kora players to ever come from The Gambia and West Africa. We are extremely proud to be representing the late Tatadindin Jobarteh (Jimi Hendrix of Kora), Jaliba Kuyateh (King of Kora), Pa Bobo Jobarteh, The Bunkas, Mariam Jobe, Jah Cause (Abuke Chabu) to name a few making us one of the most culturally significant music publishing companies representing creatives in The Gambia.

Until recently, being a musician in The Gambia is looked down upon as a viable career path. However, with recent changes in attitude and homegrown talents embracing music and carving successful careers, there is no better time to be a musician in The Gambia than now. Thus far, “Jaalolu” is a tongue-in-cheek name for the way musicians have been looked down upon by society.
