Titled after the Wolof word for jealousy, “Enyan” confronts one of the most dangerous but unspoken social forces in our communities. With the powerful refrain “Enyan febarla” (“Jealousy is a disease”), Maryama challenges listeners to recognize the spiritual cost of envy and the urgent need to heal. “This song is for anyone who’s ever been doubted, envied, or torn down by others,” says Maryama. “We need to name the disease to cure it. Enyan kills joy. It kills unity. It stops progress.”
