AFRIGO BAND
Afrigo Band is Uganda’s longest-standing musical group and one of East Africa’s most enduring musical institutions.
Founded on 1 November 1975 by legendary singer, musician, and award-winning saxophonist Moses Matovu (Papa Moi), Afrigo Band has built an extraordinary legacy spanning more than 50 years of recording, performing, and representing Ugandan music.
Known for their distinctive blend of Rumba and Afro-Jazz, exceptional musicianship, and captivating live performances, Afrigo Band has entertained generations of audiences across Uganda while taking their music internationally through tours across Europe and the United States.
Today, Moses Matovu remains at the heart of the band alongside James Wasula, Executive Director, and Kintu Baanabakintu Zirimu, Business, Communications & Tour Manager, helping guide Afrigo Band into its next chapter.
More than five decades after its formation, Afrigo Band remains a living part of Uganda’s musical heritage, connecting generations through music while continuing to perform, record and preserve an extraordinary catalogue.

Vincent is a classic recording from Afrigo Band’s extensive catalogue, now being presented through Jaalolu’s online catalogue for the first time.
The album represents an important part of the band’s recorded history, providing both longtime listeners and a new generation of audiences with an opportunity to discover the sound, musicianship, and storytelling that have sustained Afrigo Band for five decades.
Its inclusion in the Jaalolu catalogue is also part of a much wider journey.
